Dish It Out Is Dishing It Up in Less than Two Months

Dish It Out 2015

We are now less than two months away from the foodie event of the year!

Have you bought your tickets yet? What does a purchase of a ticket get you? Guests at DIO will enjoy: the chance to taste the dishes of Phoenix's 40+ best restaurants and beverage vendors, a night under the stars at High Street, the opportunity to witness the culinary clash of the century and the thought that you are doing something good by helping BGCMP kids.

Sounds like a great night, right?

Right now, the planning is still moving and shaking. New restaurants are added weekly! What additions have you missed since last month's newsletter?

Winning Hands Dealt at Hearts-4-Clubs

The cowboy boots and hats were dusted off for this year's Hearts-4-Clubs Casino Night. The August 14 event was enjoyed by more than 150 guests and raised more than $10,000 for BGCMP after-school programs.

Cowboys and cowgirls enjoyed food and signature drinks from Dierks Bentley's Whiskey Row's kitchen, desserts, and sought-after prizes.

The night was organized by Connect, a group of committed ambassadors who raise awareness and funds for BGCMP. If interested in becoming a member, contact Kate at kdelisa@bgcmp.org.

Annual Back-to-School Shopping

Last month, 103 BGCMP members went back to school with new clothes and shoes thanks to those who donated and attended our annual Back-to-School Shopping event. Paired with their adult shoppers, Club kids took over Paradise Valley Mall to get outfitted and prepped for the new school year.

Club kids were chosen by their Club staff based on their exemplary behavior and need.

Thank you all to who came out or donated to this special evening!

Club Kids Take a STAND Against TobaccoStand 2015

As the summer is ending, so is the interactive anti-tobacco art exhibit tour, the “Art of Resistance.” STAND (Students Taking a New Direction), Arizona’s anti-tobacco youth coalition, and BGCMP partnered to showcase the project that taught kids to say no to tobacco.

“The Art of Resistance” is an annual student art contest where the drawings, paintings, photographs and sculptures of the Valley’s most creative teenage artists depict the dangerous consequences of tobacco use. For the exhibit, the various works were merged to create an 8-foot-tall standalone display with “cut-out” areas that allow young people to become part of the art via artful selfies and interactions.

“The Art of Resistance” visited all 13 Clubs this summer and will make its final stand at the Bob & Renee Parsons Branch mid-September.

AZ Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals are this month's Sponsor Spotlight because of their generous grant to run the SMART (Skills Mastery and Resistance Training) Moves Program.

In SMART Moves programs across all of the Clubs, members learn decision-making and critical-thinking skills, as well as learn how to avoid and/or resist alcohol, tobacco, other drugs and premature sexual activity.

From SMART Leaders to SMART Girls to Passport to Manhood, members are leaving these sessions smarter. Thanks to the Cardinals for supporting these educational programs that better the lives of our kids!
