Dish It Out Brings the Heat

Dish It Out 2015

On Oct. 25, more than 2,000 Valley foodies headed to High Street for a night of amazing local food and beverages, luxury experiences and a culinary showdown.

The third annual Dish It Out brought together more than 40 local restaurants, beverage vendors and experiences who served up their Sunday best to hungry attendees. From samples of filet mignon, sushi, craft beers and wine to a bourbon tasting, hand-rolled cigars and top-notch talent, guests went home satisfied. The main event – the culinary showdown of Phoenix’s top chefs – had the crowd cheering for their favorite competitor. Chef Chris McKinley emerged victorious and took home the belt and title of Dish It Out Champion.

The best part is that all of the great food and fun times were for a great cause! The event raised more than $265,000 net for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Phoenix to fuel the life-changing programs offered at the 13 Club across Phoenix and the West Valley.

Thank you to all who made this event such a huge success!

BGCMP Xtronauts Take Off

A space explorer and former Club cadet is launching a new STEM program called Xtronaut into all 13 Clubs. The interstellar comprehensive curriculum, created by Dr. Lante Lauretta, is based off a real space mission called Osiris Rex that is set to launch next September and travel to the Bennu asteroid. Osiris Rex will collect samples from the asteroid and bring them back to Earth. Dr. Lauretta, principal investigator of the Osiris Rex mission and University of Arizona professor, grew up spending his summers at the Rosenzweig Branch. His hope is that Club kids involved in Xtronaut will grow up to study the samples brought back by Osiris Rex.

Aspiring astronauts in the Clubs will use their science, technology, engineering and math skills to work on Xtronaut activities about planet orbits, identifying meteorites, determining space craft distances and more. BGCMP Club Staff recently took part in a training that will launch a new STEM Program called Xtronaut into all 13 Clubs. The program was made possible by funding from Cox Communications.

Cigna

Cigna’s crusade for healthy lives is evident in its support of BGCMP. Their support of the Bob & Renee Parsons Dental Clinic has helped thousands of families receive proper dental care. In addition to supporting the clinic, they also aim to educate Club kids about the importance of healthy teeth. Last month, Cigna representatives visited the Bob & Renee Parsons Branch to teach kids about brushing teeth with the help of Mikey the Molar and to offer free dental screenings.

Cigna’s support also goes beyond the dentist’s chair. They actively support shoppers in the annual Back-to-School Shopping event and are a Stars League Sport Sponsor.

Thank you for your partnership, Cigna!
