Dante with Club Kids

Night with the Stars Included "Rock Star" Dr. Dante Lauretta

Last month, the Swift Kids branch hosted “A Night among the Stars” to celebrate Club members completing the Xtronaut Education Program.

Dr. Dante Lauretta - a BGCMP Club kid alum and co-creator of the Xtronaut program – provided an interactive presentation to the Club members about space exploration. Dr. Lauretta is also the principal investigator of the OSIRIS-REx Mission - the first U.S. mission to return samples from an asteroid to Earth, addressing multiple NASA Solar System Exploration objectives. Read more about OSIRIS-REx and its “Mission to Bennu” at www.asteroidmission.org.

In addition to Dr. Lauretta’s presentation and space-related activity stations, Xtronaut Club members enjoyed looking through a GPS computer controlled telescope provided by Stargazing For Everyone. Through the telescope, they were able to see Jupiter, cloud bands and the Galilean Moons.

The next Xtronaut program will begin in the new school year.

Works of Art from the Heart

Brianna IndaOn April 29, Boys & Girls Clubs from East Valley, Metro Phoenix and Scottsdale hosted a Regional Art Show. Attendees from the event enjoyed works of art from our Club kids across the Valley and the Pacific region.

The artwork included first and second place winners of both fine art and photography. Briana Inda, 2016 Youth of the Year from the Woodrow C. Scoutten/Tolleson Branch (shown at right),  won first place and will be showcasing her work at the National Fine Arts Exhibit, a year-round program encouraging artistic expression among Club members ages 6 to 18 through drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, mixed media and sculpture displayed at local and regional exhibits.

Congratulations to all the Club members who participated in the show and shared their talent and creative expression!

 Summer Day Camp 2016

BGCMP Creates Happy (Summer) Campers

If you are looking for ways to keep your children busy this summer, try one of our summer day camps! BCGMP offers summer camp programs to give kids and teens an adventurous, active, healthy and FUN summer. Our summer programs provide youth and teens with entertaining and unique experiences with an opportunity to meet new friends, participate in sporting activities, discover new interests and create memories that last a lifetime.

There are four reasons why youth and teens should attend a BGCMP summer camp:

1. Academic Success: Although school may be out, BGCMP’s summer day camps provide a variety of educational enrichment activities, including field trips to the Phoenix Children’s Museum and the Challenger Space Center.

2. Be Good, Do Great: Our Club programs are designed to increase self-confidence, help campers form meaningful friendships and understand the importance of giving back to the community.

3. Healthy Choices:Campers will learn the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle with several fitness options, including sports and recreation activities. In addition, each camper received a nutritious breakfast and lunch.

4. Fun with a Purpose: Campers are encouraged to have fun in a positive environment while learning new skills. From the arts and summer reading to cooking lessons and talent shows, our Clubs have something to offer to everyone.

Summer Day Camp programs operate five days per week from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and are available for one-week to three-week sessions. Fees vary by club.

For more information about specific summer program activities and fees, please contact the nearest Club, or visit www.bgcmp.org.

***With the help of the USDA Summer Food Service Program, we are able to provide all summer camp participants with a nutritious breakfast and lunch for no additional fee.
